THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

I.        Lesson Objectives: 


Lesson 5 Reproductive System      Given names of different organs, the learner will be able to satisfactorily classify the organs of the reproductive system.


*      Each child will be able to identify the importance of circumcision to our health.


*      Each student will be able to cite the advantages and disadvantages of abortion.


*      The student will be able to enumerate the different birth control methods.


*      The student will be able to distinguish at least seven disorders of the reproductive system by using a concept organizer.



II.      Key Concepts:

The male and female individuals have reproductive systems. The male reproductive system is consisted of the scrotum, testes, male ducts, seminal vesicles, prostate, bulbourethral glands, semen, and penis while the female reproductive system has the ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina, vulva, perineum and mammary glands.

Circumcision is a surgical procedure in which part of or the entire prepuce is removed. It has benefits such as lowering the risk of urinary tract infections, protection against penile cancer, and possibly lowering he risk for sexually transmitted diseases.

There are birth control methods like surgical sterilization, hormonal methods like oral contraceptives, intrauterine devices (IUD), spermicides, barrier methods, periodic abstinence and abortion.

Abortion refers to the premature expulsion of the products of conception from the uterus, usually before the twentieth week of pregnancy. It could be done naturally through miscarriage or induced.

There are some disorders of the reproductive system like the testicular cancer, prostate disorders, erectile dysfunction, premenstrual syndrome, endometriosis, breast cancer, etc.





III.    Learning Activities


Activity 1

“Classify them”


                        Below are different names of the organs of the reproductive system. Try to analyze whether the parts belong to the male or female reproductive system.

Activity 2


“CIRCUMCISION MOMENTS”


Try to imagine you are a boy. What might be the benefits of circumcision on you?


Activity 3



            Read some articles about abortion. Analyze its advantages and disadvantages.

Activity 4


            Interview several couples. Jot down their methods for birth control or let us say family planning. Ask them how such method helped them.



Activity 5

“MY DISORDERS”


            Using some references, search for the common diseases of the reproductive system.


            Try to analyze how to prevent such diseases.


IV.   Course Policies

Requirements. Requirements should be passed on time. Do not pass the requirement as if all in one. Pass the requirement by activity. You will post a different string for requirement 1, another for requirement 2, so on and so forth. For requirements alone, I am expecting that you will have a minimum of 4 postings.


Teacher’s Presence. For every post you will make, I will be giving comments.

Comments. You are free to comment the work of others as well as to the comment that I have given.

                  Write an essay which consists of three paragraphs on the importance of circumcision.
